Alba Toribio

I’m pursuing social work because I know what it feels like to face barriers and still push forward. As a Afro-Latina, Spanish was my first language, and growing up in a military household taught me discipline and resilience. My background has shaped the way I see the world and given me a strong drive to help others who may feel unseen or unheard.

I’ve worked as an interpreter for Spanish-speaking patients and supported adults with substance use disorders. I’ve also spent time in communities where immigrant families are deeply affected by today’s political climate. These experiences have shown me the importance of bridging language and cultural gaps in care. Through my MSW program, I hope to continue supporting adults and immigrant families in the Latinx community by helping them process trauma, build coping skills, and strengthen their sense of belonging.
