As a first-generation Latino college student, I aim to earn my Master's in Clinical Social Work. Having personally experienced the impact of acculturation, I acknowledge how painful and complex the process can be, especially for those facing with the emotional cost of pursuing the so-called “American Dream.” Being away from loved ones/community can unconsciously contribute to the deterioration of mental health. It is worth noting that within the Latinx communities, mental health is often stigmatized and not seen as a priority. Therefore, after completing my MSW degree, my goal is to culturally bridge this gap by encouraging individuals for open conversations to reduce such stigma associated with seeking help. As well as aiming to make a significant impact on individuals struggling with hidden mental health concerns by helping them develop healthier coping skills and improving their overall quality of life with one-on-one therapy.
